What is a Courthouse Courier?

A courthouse courier is a person that retrieves legal documents or other important goods from courthouses that then need to be delivered under a certain period of time. The name courthouse courier can be interchangeable between courthouse messenger or runner.

A.C.E., Inc. Florida statewide courthouse couriers are responsible for transporting legal evidence, documents and manuscripts between an attorney/law firm and the court. Our dependable courthouse couriers make it a point to always be on time and are trained to take on many court messenger tasks throughout the day.

The reason why a big part of a courthouse courier’s job is about time is due to the fact that lawsuits are extremely time-sensitive. The time-span of a case is determined by the courts in an effort to make sure they do not drag on infinitely and because there are numerous other lawsuits they have to be able to go through. Courthouse couriers are particularly necessary due to the fact that most of the time the time table to deliver and retrieve the legal documents at hand require them to be delivered within the same business day they are picked up. The aforementioned situation outlines why the mail isn’t the always necessarily the best option for services that need to be expediently handled.

What is a Docket Sheet?

A docket sheet is a summarization of all information pertaining to a court case or any other legal litigation. The term docket sheet can also be interchangeable with the term “case docket”.

The information contained within a docket sheet will usually include pertinent stats related to a court case like the name of the assigned judge, the type of claim alleged, attorneys, litigants and the case number to name a few. Besides the essentials of a court case listed above, docket sheets have a record of events that took place during the life-span of the case and a summary that will show all the documents that are on file with the corresponding court.

All Florida court cases have a docket sheet, where they are public records and can be accessed either online or in person at the courthouse where the case was filed. With the exception of juvenile court and certain other types of confidential matters (such as adoptions), case files and docket sheets are public records and can be inspected by anyone anytime.

The term, “docket sheet” is sometimes used informally to refer to a court calendar, which is the schedule of appearances that are to appear before the court or the caseload as a whole. Some courts may differentiate between "docket" (the dates on which the court is open) and "oral argument calendar" (the dates for which each case is scheduled).

In the United States of America there is currently no one comprehensive docket database for all state and federal courts. Even though every case filed has a docket sheet, it may not be readily available and easily accessible without direct access to the court where the records are kept. Therefore, most lawyers, attorneys, barristers, counselors and legal professionals who need a copy of a docket sheet and or case file copies rely upon the services of a reputable nationwide public records research company such as A.C.E., Inc.
